Raising Health Through Conscious Awareness

You Are What You Eat

Mar. 09 2011 - 12:21 PM | comments

Anciently, the alimentary canal (your digestive system) was referred to as a River of Life or a River of Death – depending on what you chose to “float down the river”...

Some foods are particularly difficult for the body to digest or process - and over time and distance of regularly consuming these foods, sickness and disease is often the result.

Of course, life is meant for ‘living’ so it’s absolutely no problem to let loose every once in a while, but being consciously aware of what you’re putting into your body most of the time, will influence greatly whether or not you experience a vibrant, disease-free life.

Here are some foods that you should try to avoid wherever possible:

Cooked and Processed Dairy products including homogenized and pasteurized cheese, ice cream, milk, and yogurt.  These products tend to clog and congest the digestive system, thus slowing down the elimination of toxins and old intestinal waste.  Raw, organic dairy products are a completely different story and offer tremendous life-giving, health benefits.  Seek those out instead and make sure they’re included in your diet.

Processed and Refined Sugar and Wheat are a far cry from the unprocessed variety that nature offers.  White sugar, white flour, artificial sweeteners and corn syrup in candy, soft drinks, white bread, pasta, cereals should also be avoided because they depress the digestive and immune system.  Did you know that the artificial sweetener called Aspartame, heated to 86 degrees F. becomes Formic Acid (a deadly toxin) and Formaldehyde?  It’s a scary thing that leads to all kinds of chronic conditions.

Iodized Table Salt constricts and holds in toxins in the body.  It also contains aluminum in it so that it doesn’t cake.  Good salt (obtained in it’s natural unrefined state) such as Sea Salt and Himalayan Rock Salt provide essential nutrients to the human system and is the key to avoiding inflammation and infection.  Don’t be afraid of good salt!

Meat takes a massive amount of energy and time to digest.  Meat can leave harmful residue called “cadaver Ines” in your digestive system if it’s not moving through with the help of high water content foods within 24-36 hours.  This is the primary cause of ‘rot and decay’ – better known as Cancer.

The reality is that these foods are staples of most people’s diet in the western world.  And it’s the primary reason why diseases like Diabetes, High Cholesterol and Cancer are out of control.

Most people consume too much protein. Protein is necessary and completely healthy, but what most people don’t realize is that “primary source” protein is actually found in plants – not dead animals.

Too much protein from the wrong sources can lead to over-acidity, which will lead to problems.  An overabundance of acid in the body will clog the colon as it depletes necessary minerals and electrolytes from your body.  This then leads to the inability of the colon to tackle harmful bacteria, and toxins.

Many of us also overeat too much of the wrong foods.  We eat stacks of meat and throw processed sugar on top for dessert and wonder why we don’t feel great or why we’re over weight.  Eating too much in one sitting can have serious long-term effects. Overeating leads to an overuse of enzymes, and can cause your colon to work even harder.  It’s a horrible cycle.

We should realize too, that hunger is so often an emotional, habituated cycle that we’ve developed over years and years of eating three square meals a day, but it’s totally unnecessary.  Snack and graze more often rather than ‘load up’ at three major sittings each day.  Always remember that the less you eat, generally, the longer you’re going to live.

The bottom line is, if you want to stay healthy and energetic in the short term and disease free long-term, you need to keep your ‘pipes’ clear.  It’s important to remember that what we eliminate from our bodies is just as important as what we take in.  Let’s simplify it even further by saying, ultimately, “You Are What You Eat (and drink)!”
