Step Back to Leap Forward

You will never know enough, the world is full of so much information and this is growing at an exponential pace with new discoveries, research and the Internet.

Isn’t it funny though, how achievers like you and I just power forward doing what ever it takes to succeed in money, health & relationships, (and I know you’re an achiever because you are taking the time out to read this and continue to educate yourself) but we forget to take a step back.

What do I mean by take a step back?

Sometimes in life we need to decrease to increase. Like a farmer when it comes time to sow, he decreases his seed stockpile planting them into the dirt, to receive and increase at the end when he reaps the crops and replaces that seed with an abundance of additional seed from the harvest.

You see, we may need to decrease our spending now to afford the next investment property, which will give us an increase later. It may be a decrease in spare time now while we go to night school and prepare ourselves for a better position at work.

It has been my experience that if I want to learn from a mentor in a new area, I am going to need to take a step back so I can leap forward. I have worked for free to be around an environment, which helped me get a lot more later on many occasions in my journey to a prosperity mindset.

If you want more friends, you need to step back the ego and care about what others have to say. If you want to loose weight you have to step back the food intake, if you want to have a stronger connection to God or the universe you need to step back the mind chatter and go and meditate.

There are four reasons why I find people don’t step back to leap forward:

Fear - They fear it wont work so they stay doing the same old thing, day in and day out and that wasn’t working anyway. As Susan Jeffers aptly titled book says “Feel the fear and do it anyway”.

Others Opinions — They fear rejection or condemnation from others like the “who does she think she is” remark, like these people really matter to your success.

The Status Quo — And not the 70’s rock band. I am talking about being afraid of going to another level because it means maybe loosing the friends you have at this level. The truth is every level will always bring with it a new level of relationships. You may find some friends follow you up, and the ones who don’t will be replaced by others on the journey at that level. An example, many years ago I got to meet and sit with the Prime Minister at that time Mr John Howard and other guests.

Now, this was a level up from where I was before, hobnobbing with the PM and his friends. But in the other room were some close acquaintances and to start with  I was really uncomfortable, I wanted to go and sit in the other room where the status quo was, but the truth is by the end of the night I had an amazing time, spoke with some amazing people playing at a higher level than I was at the time and really enjoyed myself. I made contacts and relationships that helped propel me forward and my life honestly has never been the same since.

A Lack Mentality — They fear that there is not enough, they can’t step back because they will loose what they have now. There is no vision in this type of thinking which is small and shallow.

It is said that you can count the apple seeds in an apple but you can’t count the apples in an apple seed. When you’re on the journey to wealth and prosperity you will find gaps in the path that you need to cross, those who try to just walk forward and jump inevitably fall in the gap, you need to take a step back, sometimes more, to make the leap across the gap.
